Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
I did not think a turn-based RPG would grab me this much, but Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 really surprised me. From the first minutes I was hooked. The story is set in a strange Belle Époque style world where every year a creature called “the Painter” erases people from existence. You join Expedition 33, a group on a desperate mission to stop it, and the journey feels heavy and emotional in the best way. The combat is my favorite part. It is turn-based, but not slow or boring. You have to dodge, block and aim in real time, so every fight keeps you focused. Landing a perfect parry or pulling off a well-timed attack feels amazing. The world is also beautiful. The art style is unique, the music is haunting, and the characters are memorable. It feels like stepping into a painting that is alive, full of style and atmosphere. It is not flawless though. The exploration is pretty linear, and sometimes the world feels more like a backdrop than a place you can fully interact with. I also noticed small bugs and little UI issues, nothing major, but enough to notice. Still, when I look back, I only remember how much fun and emotion the game gave me. It mixes strategy with action, has a world that pulls you in, and tells a story that stays in your head.
