Hollow Knight
When I first stepped into Hollow Knight, I didn’t know it would become one of my all-time favorite games. This isn’t just a platformer. It’s a world — vast, mysterious, and alive with secrets.
What makes it a masterpiece
- Atmosphere: The art style is simple yet powerful. Every area has its own mood, and the soundtrack perfectly matches the silence, the tension, and the beauty of Hallownest.
- Exploration: This is Metroidvania at its best. Hidden paths, secret bosses, and entire regions that you can miss if you don’t pay attention. The joy of discovery is endless.
- Combat: The nail feels responsive and sharp. Boss fights are challenging, fair, and unforgettable. Each one has its own rhythm, and beating them feels like a real achievement.
- Lore and storytelling: The game doesn’t hand you the story. You piece it together through NPCs, ruins, and items. It feels like exploring an ancient myth.
What to expect
- High difficulty: The game is tough. Some bosses will take many tries, and platforming sections demand precision. But that difficulty is part of the reward.
- Patience required: Hollow Knight doesn’t guide you much. Getting lost is normal. You have to embrace the wandering.
Verdict
Hollow Knight is more than a game. It’s an experience that stays with you long after the credits roll. Dark, beautiful, challenging, and endlessly rewarding — it set the standard for modern Metroidvania.
